Singing Hills 3rd Annual Job Fair
“Job well done” is the sentiment of the job fair planners and participants of the 3rd Annual Job Fair at the “Exciting Singing Hills” Baptist Church in the South Oak Cliff, a community in south Dallas.
“Once again the Lord blessed us to have a successful job fair,” said Othie Gayton, minister of missions and coordinator of the job fair.
Singing Hills partnered with the Texas Workforce Commission, the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Comerica Bank, Dallas Baptist Association and the Community Development office of the Baptist General Convention of Texas to bring this job fair to a much needed area of Dallas.
As the day began, job fair participants formed a line out to the parking lot awaiting what could be their employment opportunity. With the downturn in the economy and layoffs, the job fair attracted 288 job seekers across Dallas.
Thirty employers responded to the invitation, and they were there bright and early to interview participants. Employers included Bank of America, Dallas Police Department, Tom Thumb, Methodist Hospital, Schneider Trucking and many more, which made the atmosphere exciting and extremely positive.
Twelve individuals were hired on the spot and the employers responded to a survey which indicated that another 159 could be employed after a follow-up interview.
Fifty people asked for prayer and 20 individuals made use of the newly set up Job Readiness and Job Placement Center that was installed on the second floor of “building C” by the Community Development office of the BGCT. The Job Placement Center allowed participants to create and print resumes and search for job opportunities via the Internet. Resume preparation assistance was provided by the Dallas Christian Women’s Job Corps.
Singing Hills church members volunteered and helped in parking, greeting, food service, setup and take down. Thanks to Singing Hills volunteers, job fair employers and the job fair planning team for making this year’s job fair a huge success.
