At Bernard’s Creole Kitchen on the Baptist University of the  Americas campus, food is for sale, but second chances are plentiful and  free of charge. Here  the conversation is as often about the food’s delectable sauces and  seasonings as it is about life journeys, hopes and dreams. The small  eatery brings together people from all walks of life – politicians,  military personnel, the hungry, the hurting as well as BUA faculty,  staff and students.

With military life comes frequent moves, deployment to war zones, changing family roles while a family member is away and the emotional strain experienced as a loved one may be in danger. Though the Rivers family has experienced all of this at some point during the last few years, they feel that military life is exactly the life God has placed before them and they gladly and faithfully serve in this position.
