Go Now Missions: Breaking the chains of darkness

News, how-to’s, videos and photos for you

Earlier this month, I was sobbing because I was so overwhelmed by the deep chains of darkness here in South Asia. I struggled because I wanted desperately for these people to come to know and embrace our sweet savior Jesus Christ. I wondered why the Holy Spirit was not working faster.

Later that day, my partner and I grabbed coffee with a girl we had met on the metro. We shared the gospel and our stories and I was amazed to see how Jesus stirred her heart in mighty ways.

When we met with her just two days later, she said she was overwhelmed by our message and it had completely changed her heart. She keep saying, “I am a completely different person. I am a completely different person.” She understood fully the gospel and the fact that Jesus is the only way to salvation. It was incredible!

Intrigued by God’s love and mercy, she said the only thing that was keeping her from committing fully was that her parents were going to “kill her.” I asked her if that was literal. She said repeated, “My parents would KILL me.” The fear in her face was an extreme reality.

She later explained that if she was going to commit to Jesus, she would need to do it in secret. We gave her God’s Word to read and study. She said she was going to read and cherish it. She is extremely passionate to pursue a relationship with Jesus Christ.

However, a few weeks ago, I lost contact with her. She was no longer responding to my texts or phone calls. I talked with my supervisor about the disconnect and he explained her family most likely found her Bible or her phone and destroyed it. I was very discouraged at first, but then, I became confident that the Holy Spirit was working through her.

After reverent prayers, she contacted me explaining she was compelled to study the Word together. Praise Jesus! The Father is working mightily through her. At first, I was surprised. But then I remembered that the Holy Spirit is powerful. He is working mightily and I should recognize that power. I am excited to hear her story and how much Jesus is working in her life.

Continue to pray for courage for her to accept the message fully! Pray bold prayers for courage and strength. Pray that she will look upon threats and continue to speak His truth and Word with all boldness, just like in Acts 4:29.

I am uplifted by the power of the Holy Spirit. I am learning how the Father stands ready to allocate his power, through the Holy Spirit, to all who are radically dependent on him and radically devoted to making much of Him.

The Father is already present in this dark area of the world. There will be many dangerous situations this summer for me, however, when we risk our lives to spread the Father’s love, we discover the safety and security that is only found in His sovereignty.

God is working in strong ways here in South Asia.
