Truthfully, I do not know how else to describe the change that has taken place in my life. Through it all, God has still been faithful. I have recently moved to Denton, Texas to serve as the Campus Missionary at the University of North Texas. I have been blown away by how blunt people are in Denton, how exhausting campus ministry is, and how God works all things together for his good.
That last one blows my mind. God is truly blessing my ministry right now. He is literally bringing people to my feet.
My first couple of weeks in Denton were really slow. I was transitioning and getting the hang of things. Most students were not back yet because school didn’t start for another couple of weeks, but in walked a young lady seeking answers. I had an opportunity to meet with her. She was having a difficult week. She had just broken up with her boyfriend, had a fight with her mom, and filed for graduation. She was looking for answers. All of her life she had grown up Jehovah Witness, but recently, she began to think that they had it wrong. In high school she had accepted Christ at a camp. No one poured into her and she turned from her beliefs. I get to meet with this young lady and speak truth into her life. I get to show her what the Bible says.
For some odd reason, I have had a huge passion for sorority girls since I moved to Denton. The funny thing is I graduated from a small, Baptist university. There was no Greek life. Every door I thought was opening to get in with these girls closed right in my face, until now. I met with a friend this past weekend who was getting ready to leave to spend her semester in Kenya sharing the sweet news of Jesus. She was telling me about a friend she knew, and wanted us to meet. This friend went to UNT and didn’t know Jesus, but she was in a sorority. Not only was she in one, she was in one of the biggest sororities on campus. God is so good. I hope to spend time with her soon. We have been messaging through my friend to meet up.
Each week I have the opportunity to disciple six girls. It is so sweet to walk with them and grow together. This week we are using our testimonies to share Jesus. For some of my girls this is a very scary time. Please pray for boldness and confidence.
God is moving in Denton. He is so faithful.
Philippians 1: 3-11
“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God id my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”
