Where will we stay?
We will be housing a several area churches.
I do have 12 rooms reserved at the Quality Inn in Bastrop, located at 106 Hasler Blvd, Bastrop, TX 78602, (512)-321-3303. There will be 4 people per room (if you want to stay in a room with 2 people you will need to pay $200 per person) 6 of the rooms are taken.
What to Bring:
- Copies of all attached completed forms
- All Team Leaders need to have a copy of each team members driver’s license and insurance card (If you don’t have medical insurance please let us know)
- We are purchasing a Volunteer Insurance Policy for each volunteer in addition to your medical insurance. For those with no insurance this policy will assist with cost of medical care in case you are hurt while volunteering.
- For those staying at the Churches you will need to bring bedding, sheets, sleeping bag, blankets, air mattress or cot, towels, wash clothes.
- Toiletry items, sun screen, bug spray, work clothes and tennis shoes.
All drivers need have a current GPS. When you are driving in the wildfire area the street signs are gone. If you are driving around needing to find job sites a GPS is a must. Otherwise it is just a good thing to have when you are traveling.
Special Instructions:
Those doing clean out/repair/construction will need to wear long jeans, tennis shoes or work boots. Work gloves and mask will also be needed. Also, bring any tools, shovels, brooms, etc. …
The BGCT will provide a Texas Baptists Volunteer shirt for you to wear when on the job. (If you want to purchase additional shirts they are $15 each)
Types of Work we will be doing:
Distribution Center Work
Bastrop County Fire Relief Center
Perfect for young and older volunteers. Children must be accompanied by parents.
What will I be doing?
Many of you are asking what type of work you will be doing here. We regret that we are unable to take the time to visit with you each by phone to attempt to answer these questions, but here is an overview.
• Some will be working to unload and organize items in the distribution area.
• Some will be Personal Shopping Assistants. These “PSAs” assist when a wildfire survivor comes through our Distribution Center, talking with them upfront to understand their situation and escorting them through the goods to assist with their shopping. It is the personal touch that makes all the difference.
Clean out/Repair/Construction
We need to be flexible on this. I am working with Gene Crick, of the Disaster Recovery Center in Bastrop to find projects for us. I am also working with Americorps Volunteer Reception Center in the Bastrop State Park for work assignments.
Wednesday Night Group Worship Service – We are working on a place to gather as a community of volunteers. More information will be given on this. It would be great to use this time to prayfor the county, pray for the people and worship God.
While all the details have not fallen completely in to place I know that God is in this trip. God is truly paving our way.
Let me know if you have any further questions. We will keep you informed as we move forward.
