Volunteers Needed to Assist after Austin Flooding

An estimated 1600 homes in the Austin area were affected by floods on October 31, 2013. More than 100 homes have been red-tagged, meaning the homeowners cannot enter without an inspector. A good portion of these homeowners are without flood insurance and their houses will probably be demolished.

Texas Baptists Disaster Recovery, along with Volunteer Associations Active in Disaster, are assisting in the cleaning out of homes and first-response case management.

How you can help:

  • The Shalom Builders will be doing construction work in West every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from February 6 to July 31. Volunteers are welcome on any of these trips. If you are interested in volunteering with Shalom Builders on these workdays, contact Gerald Davis at (214) 828-5392 or gerald.davis@texasbaptists.org, and click the “GO” button below to register. Click here for lodging information.
  • Funds are needed to help rebuild homes, especially by those who were uninsured. Simply click the “GIVE” button below to donate to these victims’ recovery, or mail checks to the address below.
  • Gift Cards are also a fantastic way to assist. Gift cards to multi-purpose stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes and HEB will be invaluable to families looking to rebuild their lives from scratch. Volunteers can give these cards out to affected families as they are visiting.

Please mail checks and gift cards to:
