Women in Ministry conferences are designed to encourage, equip, and help provide networking for women called to vocational ministry and those who support women in ministry.

Participants will be able to choose between 3 panel discussions based on their interest.

  • “Preparing for Leadership” – Designed for students or others discerning a call to ministry, this panel will feature three women ministers who will reflect upon their journeys as they perceived and committed themselves to a call to ministry and will entertain questions on discerning calling.
  • "Living in Leadership” – Shaped with the specific needs of women currently serving in ministry in mind, this panel will include three women ministers who will describe their struggles and successes and will take questions on issues related to ministering and leading as a woman.
  • “Exploring Leadership and Encouragement” – Developed for men and women who are exploring and considering the issue of women in ministry and how they can be an encouragement to women in leadership, this panel will consist of congregational, institutional, and lay leaders who will relate their experiences regarding women in ministry/leadership and will answer questions concerning the exploration and encouragement of women in leadership roles.

12:00-1:00 Networking Lunches

During lunch conference participants will be able to join a facilitated discussion about particular areas of ministry.

1:15-2:05 Equipping Breakouts

Participants will have the option of 6 breakout offerings during each breakout time slot.

The plenary speaker for the 2014 Women in Ministry Conference, Embracing Leadership, will be Dr. Suzii Paynter. Paynter is the Executive Coordinator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship where she began her service in 2013. Previously, Paynter served as Director of the Advocacy Care Center and Christian Life Commission for Texas Baptists. Over the past decade, Paynter has gained a national reputation for her advocacy on important ethical issues such as religious liberty, hunger and poverty, environmental justice, human trafficking and immigration reform. She has been recognized by religious and secular organizations nationwide ‒ North American Association of Christians in Social Work, Baptist Center for Ethics, Sierra Club, Samaritan Counseling Centers, American Association of Retired Persons and the Criminal Justice Coalition. Paynter’s work has been highlighted on television programs, including Moyers on America, and in print publications, such as the Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker. In addition, she has served as a congregational lay leader and deacon alongside her husband Roger, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Austin, for over 40 years.
