Leadership Texas Baptists seeking emerging leaders

DALLAS - Texas Baptists is launching Leadership Texas Baptists this fall, a new program aimed at emerging leaders. Leadership Texas Baptists is a nine-month experience to engage, equip, and inform emerging leaders from churches across the state. Pastors, staff, and lay leaders accepted into the program will gather once a month in a cohort experience to hear from and dialog with BGCT leaders.

"We are excited to launch this new initiative aimed at identifying and equipping emerging Baptist leaders from around Texas," said Dr. David Hardage, Texas Baptists executive director. "Our hope is that Leadership Texas Baptists will be mutually beneficial for the attendees and leaders. Through this program we look forward to creating a strong network around the state who will serve our churches, ministries, and institutions with Christlike leadership for many years to come."

Course content for the program will include topics like leadership development and spiritual formation; critical issues for Texas Baptists in the 21st century; institutional collaboration; and the changing face of Texas. Cohort members will also have the opportunity to hear from and dialogue with leaders of the BGCT and partner institutions including the BGCT Executive Board, Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, Dallas Baptist University, and Buckner International.

"Participants in Leadership Texas Baptists will have the opportunity to dialogue with some of our top church and institutional leaders, and sharpen their own leadership practices," said David Adams, director of Leadership Texas Baptists. "The experience will help connect and strengthen ties between current and emerging Texas Baptist leaders. This is one way we are investing in our future."

Applicants must be 21 years or older, an active member of a BGCT-affiliated church, and able to attend eight of the nine seminar sessions. Tuition is $475, which includes room and board at kickoff retreat, course materials, monthly training classes, lunches, and materials at each session. Student is responsible for travel expenses. The application deadline is July 31, 2015 and the first cohort meeting will be held in mid-September.
