If there is one thing I have learned while serving on staff at the UNT BSM it is the essential need for collegiate ministry in the United States. Over one million students are attending college in the State of Texas. According to a recent poll by Lifeway, 70 percent of freshmen who enter the college world will stop attending church. This generation is among the most biblically illiterate of all generation. This generation simply does not know the Bible or the truth of the Gospel.
These statistics are a small portion of what is truly seen in college ministry today. I have seen college ministry done correctly and disciples are made, as proclaimed in the Great Commission. The staff I have had the privilege of serving and doing life with this past year has shown me the necessity of discipleship and spiritual leadership in a college student’s life.
My entire past year has been spent teaching and discipling students on how to know Him, with the understanding that the more they know Him the more they will make Him known. Through discipleship with different women I have learned and watched my students grow to love God’s word simply by being taught how to study it and apply it to their lives. I have watched as students learn how the Word is daily fuel for their lives and have witnessed this fuel lead students to boldly proclaim the Gospel to their friends, strangers, and loved ones, understanding that eternity matters most. I have been used by God and have witnessed Him moving drastically on UNT’s campus this year.
However, I recognized that none of these things would have happened without the many prayers, time, and financial sacrifice that many have given for the sake of the Gospel on college campuses. I do ask that you would consider giving, serving, or praying for a local collegiate ministry. Throughout history college students have been recorded as leading forces for revivals all over the world. College students are changing the world and what better way for them to change the world than through our Creator’s holy words. They cannot change the world in this way if they do not know it. They cannot know it if they do not have someone investing in them. How will you invest in college students for the sake of the Gospel?
This past year has been a sweet privilege to serve as the campus missionary at UNT. It is hard to believe it is over. I am trusting that the Lord will open the next door in His will for my life in ministry. Praying for each of you.
