In accordance with the Lord’s command in Matthew 22:21 and the Baptist commitment to religious freedom, we believe religious freedom is for every person of faith and those with no faith. Religious liberty is not absolute, but every effort should be made to reduce government intrusion on individual’s right of conscience even where they might conflict with societal norms. We support legislative efforts to protect the rights of religious people and organizations.
- Support efforts to protect the right of churches and religious nonprofits to make employment decisions, facility use determinations, and doctrinal statements consistent with their religious convictions and beliefs.
- Support legislation that protects the rights of faith-based family service providers to provide services consistent with their deeply held religious beliefs.
- Preserve the autonomy of private religious institutions by rejecting public funds for private sectarian schools through tuition grants or vouchers.
