Dear Texas Baptists,
For the past couple of years several of our Texas Baptists Staff have been studying, reviewing, researching and praying about our BGCT prevention and response activity regarding the issue of child sexual abuse, particularly as it relates to clergy and our churches and camps.
This past February, at our Texas Baptists Executive Board meeting, a proposal was presented and unanimously adopted that we, BGCT, partner with an organization known as MinistrySafe to better address this issue in the local Church. We are excited about what this industry leader offers to churches to help them in this critical area. In fact, we at the BGCT will be using their safety system ourselves. We encourage you to consider joining as well.
We are concerned about the well-being of children and greatly desire to see that suffering, especially at the hands of child predators, be prevented. Therefore we are embarking upon a new day of training and education for local church leaders.
Beginning this year at our Annual Meeting in Waco on November 15, we’ll begin providing training opportunities for Church leaders to become aware and informed about how to prevent child sexual abuse. As we add more training opportunities, you’ll be able to find them going forward on this website. In addition to identifying training opportunities, this website offers you many resources which you will find invaluable moving forward for your church and its leaders.
As always, should you have a need for assistance we encourage you to contact our office directly at (214) 887-5488. Please stay alert for training. Please avail yourself to all the information on this site and know that, as a Convention, we are with you and for you.
