Texas Baptists welcomed Carol Plant as the new director of Human Resources. Plant transitioned from her prior position as a large market client executive at Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. She assumed the position on March 24.

Plant said she is looking forward to serving and supporting what Texas Baptists is doing around the state.

“It’s kind of the parental type thing, when you see your kids go out and do something and you're like, ‘Oh, I remember when…’ I remember when that person was first hired!” explained Plant. “I'm so excited to see, as I sit in this chair and I start to see new hires come in, or I see people promote and move into other areas, or move from one center to another and see them start to fulfill their service and their calling in their career, to see how that translates out into the world in our bigger vision.”

Prior to her time at Texas Baptists, Plant served in various human resource roles in her career but has largely focused on employee benefits. She brings a total of 25 years of human resource experience to her new role.

“I feel like the experience that I've had over the past 25 years in various areas, seeing the HR role from not only being in the HR [director] seat, but also seeing it from other areas, has given me a very unique perspective to kind of come back to the original seat that I sat in,” said Plant.

Plant earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Baylor University and a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in human resources and nonprofit management from the University of North Texas.

“We are excited to have Carol join our staff. She brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience to the BGCT HR department, which will benefit not only our leadership and staff, but also our churches,” said Ward Hayes, treasurer/CFO of Texas Baptists.

Plant said she wants to help employees be successful, both personally and professionally.

“The way I like to describe it to people is my job is to take the vision and the mission that our executive board, then down to our executive leadership, has for Texas Baptists and help our employees who are going to be executing that, to make sure that they have all the tools and resources that they need in order to be successful and do their jobs in carrying out that vision,” said Plant.

She said she is grateful for her family’s support as she transitions into her new role and hopes to make a positive impact on her kids by being obedient to “fulfill [her] calling.”

“We're all going through a little bit of a change together and making an adjustment, but I think it's been very exciting to see my family be excited and be happy about this change,” said Plant. “Seeing their mom fulfill a calling and fulfill a service to God, I hope that's something that my kids carry forward in their life.”
