Blue skies and a bright shining sun made an appearance as 265 golfers stepped onto the green of the TPC San Antonio golf course on April 27 for the second annual Texas Baptists Golf Classic.
The tournament raised an estimated $15,000 by way of donors, event fees and 17 sponsors, with Baptist Church Loan Corporation (BCLC) serving as title sponsor. All proceeds will benefit Texas Baptists Disaster Recovery (TBDR).
"We're grateful to all of our sponsors, especially BCLC who, without their help, the event wouldn't have been possible," said Chris Liebrum, tournament director and director of TBDR. "We're glad we can host the event with all proceeds going to disaster recovery."
Through TBDR, more than 3,000 Texas Baptist volunteers have participated in mission opportunities such as cleaning up debris, building fences and rebuilding homes in areas impacted by disasters like tornadoes and earthquakes.
TBDR has multiple mission trips available throughout this summer in Texas, Haiti and Oklahoma and is in the process of considering opportunities in Nepal. Its student division, BOUNCE Student Disaster Recovery, is also planning seven summer trips for middle school and high school students.
Other sponsors for the event included Baptist Credit Union, Wayland University, Baptist Health System, Baptist Child and Family Service, Bruner Auto, Oakwood Baptist Church, Texas Baptists Missions Foundation, David Russell, Baylor Scott and White, Weaver LLP, Truett Seminary, Guidestone Financial Resources, Buckner International, Kyle Lake Foundation, Gene Dawson and South Texas Children's Home.
The 2016 Texas Baptists Golf Classic will be held at Dallas Athletic Club on Monday, April 25. Registration information will be released later this year.
