Oza Jones returns to Texas Baptists Evangelism team as its new director

The Texas Baptists Center for Ministerial Health welcomed Oza Jones as the new director of Evangelism. Jones transitioned from his prior position as the director of African American Ministries in the Center for Cultural Engagement. He assumed the position on Oct. 1.

“My heart is really to help churches to saturate their communities and their cities with Jesus Christ by teaching them to define, declare, defend and demonstrate the gospel of Jesus Christ,” said Jones.

Prior to his time at Texas Baptists, Jones served as senior pastor at Grace Tabernacle of Praise in Grand Prairie for eight years and student and young adult pastor for 17 years, totaling about 25 years of pastoral ministry. He has ministry experience working with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Apartment Life, an organization that sends teams or couples to apartments to build and, develop relationships and disciple residents in the complex. He also founded the Grand Prairie Police and Clergy Coalition.

Jones previously served on the Evangelism team as the African American Evangelism Specialist for Texas Baptists prior to his role as director of African American Ministries. He said he is most excited about “working with a great team” to “equip, empower, empower and encourage every believer to evangelize everywhere,” through building and branding a cohesive team and branching out to partner with other evangelism efforts.

“The most exciting thing for me is going to be working with the team that I started with. I started with Texas Baptists on the Evangelism team… [so], working with the team and being a place where pastors – almost like a Home Depot or Lowe's – where pastors can come to Texas Baptists and get a wealth of knowledge of evangelism, get strategies, tools and techniques to help them in their area,” said Jones.

Jones received ministry training from Southern Bible Institute and Criswell College.

“If you speak with anyone who knows Pastor Jones, you will quickly learn of his heart for evangelism. Through his leadership as Director of Evangelism, pastors will realize first-hand that they have an advocate for their specific local church who will devote time to learning with them, and from them, concerning the unique qualities, needs, and desires that drive them to be salt and light in their communities,” said Phil Miller, director of the Center for Church Health at Texas Baptists. “Through the Lord's guidance, we truly believe there are exciting days ahead.”

The Texas Baptists Evangelism team exists to challenge, equip and train Texas Baptists, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to passionately fulfill God’s call to reach all people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
