DALLAS – The Texas Baptists Golf Classic Committee presented Mark Jones, director of the Center for Collegiate Ministry, with a check of $8,500 to go towards Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) work across Texas. The money was raised through three golf tournaments held in 2021.
Johnny Knight, facility operations manager and tournament director, explained that BSM was selected as the recipient due to its widespread impact on college students across Texas.
“BSM is very close to our hearts, and it’s a very visible ministry of Texas Baptists. If people don’t know anything else we do, they recognize BSM. It’s so critical to minister to people at that important time in their lives, and with representation at 137 campuses, the potential Kingdom influence is immense,” Knight said.
The Texas Baptists Golf Classic has grown from a singular annual golf tournament to three golf tournaments throughout the year. It is a chance for pastors and ministerial leaders to engage in fun and fellowship as they help raise money for ministries. A different ministry is selected to be a recipient of the Golf Classic’s fundraising efforts each year.
This year, tournaments were held in Austin, Lubbock and Dallas.
Knight thanked the tournament participants and sponsors, naming, in particular, the title sponsor, Breckenridge Village of Tyler.
“Through their generosity and support, we were able to make this possible,” he said.
Jones, who received the check on behalf of BSM, thanked the Golf Classic for their aid of collegiate ministry.
“We’re seeing the Lord work around our state,” Jones said. “This money allows us to continue the work of campus engagement, prioritize discipleship and pursue places where there isn’t a gospel presence.”
In 2022, the Texas Baptists Golf Classic will host tournaments in Dallas, Lake Conroe and San Antonio. Registration will be announced at a later date.
