​Texas Baptists raise $182,000 for hunger through Mother’s Day Offering

DALLAS - Texas Baptists gave more than $182,000 to help end hunger and poverty through the Second Annual Mother's Day Hunger Offering. These gifts are used for hunger relief and anti-poverty programs both in Texas and abroad.

“As Texas Baptists we heed God's call to minister to those in need, in Texas and around the world," said Dr. David Hardage, executive director.

The Texas Baptist Hunger Offering strives to show the power of God's love to those in need. Ministries supported through the offering range from feeding programs in local churches to job training for single mothers and improved water and sanitation resources for underdeveloped countries.

The top 10 giving churches to the Mother's Day offering are: First Baptist Church in Midland; North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford; First Baptist Church in Kilgore; First Baptist Church in Plano; Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas; South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena; Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville; First Baptist Church in Rockport; Southland Baptist Church; and First Baptist Church in Ballinger.

"Giving to the Hunger Offering on Mother's Day is a beautiful way for Texas Baptists to honor the very person who gave them life, by giving life to someone else," said Joyce Gilbreath Kokel, Texas Baptist Hunger Offering specialist. "It's a gift that really makes Mother's Day count."

In 2013, the Texas Baptist Hunger Offering raised a record $953,000 to support global ministries. The gifts raised during Mother's Day this year are a part of the Texas Baptist Hunger Offering total for 2014.
