During the September meeting of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board, the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio (BHFSA) presented a $1 million grant to Texas Baptists focused on church and church leaders’ health initiatives in South Texas. 

The Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio (BHFSA) awarded a $1 million grant, to be used over five years, to Texas Baptists (Baptist General Convention of Texas) focused on church and church leaders’ health initiatives in South Texas.

Throughout the vast expansion of land, Robert Wheat, the director of missions for the association, wanted the churches to have a mobile resource to reach people in need of the Gospel. After months of dreaming, Wheat envisioned a ‘Life Trailer’ that was mobile and versatile for churches to utilize in reaching their communities.

Blue tarps still cover roofs in need of repair in communities like Rockport, near Corpus Christi, and Bevil Oaks, north of Beaumont. Abandoned homes are interspersed among the remodeled on many streets. One year after Category 4 Hurricane Harvey wrecked and ravaged the Gulf Coast of Texas from August 25-September 1, 2017, signs of renewal and hope are evident in the Texas Baptists churches serving along that path of the storm.

Oza Jones has joined the Texas Baptists Great Commission Team as the new Evangelism Associate for African American Ministries & Church Revitalization as of Monday, July 23.

On Monday evening, Texas Baptists African American Ministries presented the 25th Anniversary Culp Banquet, honoring the legacy of Dr. James W. Culp, Sr., who went to be with the Lord on July 22. 

A full house gathered on July 30, for the annual Texas Baptist Missions Foundation (TBMF) Luncheon, held in Arlington, Texas, as a part of the 133rd Annual Meeting of Texas Baptists. This year, the luncheon honored three outstanding servants whose commitment to the Kingdom of God has impacted thousands around the state of Texas and beyond.

A celebration of unity and diversity took place in Arlington July 29-31 as 2,054 messengers and visitors filled their seats at the table to worship, fellowship and conduct business at the 2018 Texas Baptists Family Gathering and Annual Meeting.

The Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas convened as part of the the 2018 Family Gathering July 30-31 in Arlington. The joining of Texas Baptists fellowships and conventions inspired an annual message on the biblical family heard by 233 registered messengers and numerous visitors.

Just as Abraham passed his legacy on to his son Isaac, President Danny Reeves encouraged Texas Baptists to pass the baton of leadership on to upcoming generations. Reeves’ challenge was presented during his final presidential address at the 133rd Annual Meeting of the Baptist General Convention of Texas at the 2018 Family Gathering in Arlington.

Texas Baptists are taking the Good News across the state, country and world, reported Dr. David Hardage during his Executive Director’s Report at the 2018 Family Gathering Monday evening. 

"This year will be all about unity and sharing the Gospel," said newly-elected President Michael Evans. "We do that from our different platforms, different places and different faces, but the bottom line is Jesus. He binds us together." 

Dr. Steve Mullen joined the Texas Baptists staff this summer as the new Director of Theological Education. In his role with Texas Baptists, Mullen will plan and coordinate the work of the Theological Education Council; oversee the ministerial financial assistance program; and build bridges among churches, educational institutions and the convention, among other responsibilities.

Since its inception in 1974, Super Summer started not as a camp, but as a week of training students in evangelism to know and share the Gospel. Over the decades, many things have changed, but the vision of Super Summer remains focused on teaching students to know and share the Gospel. 

James Hardin of First Baptist Dallas won this year’s National Invitational Speakers’ Tournament, held on June 14-15 at Mountain Park First Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Josh Britton of First Baptist Church of Allen also competed in the High School Bible Drill portion of the tournament while Joseph Stalcup of First Baptist Church Breckenridge competed in Youth Bible Drill.

For the second time, joint sessions of Texas Baptists Annual Meeting, the African American Fellowship Conference and the Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas will join together in harmonious celebration for a three-day event.
