African American Ministry

The Texas Baptists Center for Cultural Engagement welcomed Carlos Francis as the new director of African American Ministries. Francis transitioned from his prior position as the director of Young Adult Ministries. He assumed the position on Oct. 7.

The African American Fellowship Conference took place July 19-20 at Cornerstone Baptist Church of Killeen in Harker Heights, TX. The theme of the conference was “Legacy.”

The African American church historically and theologically has always been concerned about social transformation as well as spiritual transformation.

Tim Fuller, African American Ministries specialist, offers the first in a series of posts celebrating the impact of the African American church. Its history is rich, Fuller says, and it contains lessons that can benefit everyone.

“When a Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit, God can bring down strongholds in his heart; when a church is filled with the Holy Spirit, God can turn the world upside down,”
