Chris Walker has joined the Texas Baptists Finance and Accounting team as the new Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) Accountant.
Walker is the first to hold the newly created BSM Accountant position. In this role, Walker will train and support BSM field staff on accounting systems and processes. He will ensure that financials are done correctly and in a timely fashion and that all BSM accounting is well-organized.
“Chris is going to help us more easily bring in the financial information of all the Baptist Student Ministries,” Jim Reed, controller and assistant treasurer for Finance and Accounting said. “Chris has a lot of experience and education, and he’s proving to be an excellent trainer and will help our staff and the BSM staff in improving our efficiency.”
He will also serve as a liaison and advocate between the BSM field staff and the accounting department, speaking for the BSM to ensure that they are given the funds necessary to support their ministries.
“My role is important because I’ll be able to cover our investment in our Collegiate Ministry and make sure our financials are accountable and reaching the lives of our students,” Walker explained.
Walker attended The University of Texas at Arlington and received his Bachelor of Business and Accounting at Devry University. He obtained his Master of Business Administration from St. Edward’s University in 2011, and he is currently working towards his Master of Divinity in Leadership at George W. Truett Theological Seminary. He is also a licensed and ordained minister.
Walker serves as lead pastor of a Kingdom Church, a Texas Baptists church plant in Mesquite, TX. He has a strong background in accounting and has served as senior accountant at Christus Health and assistant controller and finance manager at Concentra. He was also an adjunct professor in accounting at Everest College and has most recently taught business classes at Dallas Independent School District.
Walker is eager to combine his love of ministry with his accounting experience.
“I’m excited about integrating a new system in place for BSM and to use the tools God has equipped me with from my past experiences in accounting and ministry,” Walker said.
