Texas Baptists to support Project: Start for North Texas Giving Day

On Sept. 14, as people across the Metroplex give to various community organizations through North Texas Giving Day, Texas Baptists are encouraging donations to Project: Start, a refugee resource center located in Vickery Meadow.

With over 30 different languages spoken, their needs are as diverse as the community itself.

Over the last 12 months, Project: Start has impacted close to 300 families, either directly with referrals or by creating capacity for others to assist and minister to refugee families.

“We are excited to serve those that come through our doors just as much as we are thankful for opportunities to impact dozens of families at once through large scale projects, such as mission collaborations with VBS programs, apartment block party events and furniture and household delivery mission projects,” said Leonid Regheta, director of Project: Start.

Every dollar donated to Texas Baptists on North Texas Giving Day will be maximized through bonus funds awarded by the Communities Foundation of Texas as well as a matching donor of $10,000. With every dollar given turning into $2-3, the Texas Baptist Mission Foundation hopes to reach their goal of $25,000.

“Throughout the New Testament, we see Jesus present the Gospel by meeting physical, tangible needs. That is exactly what Project: Start is doing,” said Leslie Snyder, donor relations coordinator for Texas Baptist Missions Foundation. “By providing refugee families with important referrals and transportation for resources such as food, education and job opportunities, Leonid and his team of volunteers are showing the love of Christ in the same way He did.”

By giving to Texas Baptists, Regheta and his team can continue to serve thousands of refugees.

North Texas Giving Day is Thurs., Sept. 14 from 6 a.m. - midnight, and donations can be scheduled in advanced until Sept. 13. Visit https://northtexasgivingday.org/npo/baptist-general-convention-of-texas to donate to Texas Baptists.

North Texas Giving Day is an 18-hour online giving extravaganza hosted by the Communities Foundation of Texas. It serves to help build awareness of and raise funds for nonprofits in the North Texas region.

Since 2009, Communities Foundation of Texas' North Texas Giving Day has pumped more than $156 million, for over 2,500 local nonprofits, into the North Texas Community. In 2016, $37 million was raised through more than 142,000 gifts benefiting 2,518 nonprofits.

Texas Baptists is a movement of God’s people to share Christ and show love by strengthening churches and ministers, engaging culture and connecting the nations to Jesus.

The ministry of the convention is made possible by giving through the Texas Baptists Cooperative Program, Mary Hill Davis Offering® for Texas Missions, Texas Baptists Worldwide and Texas Baptist Missions Foundation. Thank you for your faithful and generous support.
